Danny Vernon creates ‘Illusion of Elvis’

Danny Vernon, who has been Elvis impersonator for about 10 years, looks right at home next to a 1956 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Online: www.dannyvernon.com

Elvis Aron Presley may have passed from this earthly realm more than three decades ago, but the King’s spirit lives on with local impersonator Danny Vernon, who will bring his “Illusion of Elvis” show to the Cedarwood Bar & Grill tonight. And here’s what Vernon had to say about the art of being Elvis:

How long have you done Elvis?   About 10 years professionally now. But as soon as I heard Elvis sing, I just started singing along when I was 6 years old. I think it’s happened to a lot of guys where they listen to Elvis and sing along. But I took it to the extreme, that’s for sure.

Why Elvis?

There’s something incredible about his voice. And of course his repertoire is so huge. That’s really nice, to listen to his voice through the years and to hear how it changes. He sang so many different styles of music. He was just so passionate, and the style and the bravado that he has.

What’s the key to getting Elvis right?

He seemed to pay attention to every word that he sang. It seemed to be just very heartfelt and in the moment. (It’s important) just to be thinkin’ about that and just be there, you know.

What’s your core demographic?

It’s a good mixture. Of course you’re gonna have the 55 and above fans that maybe saw Elvis live and were there when the crest of the wave of Elvis crashed against the shores of America. … When we do the festivals and the fairs, kids seemed to love it as well.

Which Elvis will fans see?

I’ll probably just focus on the rockabilly and Vegas jumpsuit Elvis. I just got a brand new costume in. I’ve got about 10 jumpsuits that I paid upwards to two to three thousand dollars for. So it’s fun to see those. Each costume has a little bit of a theme. The latest one I have is the Egyptian.

What are your favorite Elvis songs to sing?

Well, my all-time favorite will always be “Don’t Be Cruel.” That always is a huge crowd pleaser. And honestly, I like doing some of the … movie songs. I think I’m gonna throw in a song like “Angel” – stuff from, like, “G.I. Blues.” Every time I throw in a song that you might not hear every day, I always get a compliment.

Be the first to see one of my new Elvis replica suits called "The Egyptian".

Danny Vernon Illusion of Elvis concludes his final song at the Elvis Bash

Many Sincere Thanks to Danny Vernon's Fan Club for making it possible for me to attend  and photograph last night's almost full three hour, Elvis Bash at the Emerald Queen Casino's outstanding venue/showroom. Along with several other members of the Fan Club we filled an entire table to witness what was probably the best Danny performance I have had the opportunity to witness. Danny and Marsha were both "ON" and collecting the vibes and adrenalin rush from those sitting in the audience. Danny and Marsha along with full band, The Double Trouble Dancers plus a very special treat for his "How Great Thou Art" and several other gospel songs were the topic of conversation among the audience members. The sound system was incredible and added to Danny's repertoire and style, with variances in tone and quality throughout
the show enhancing and following Danny's every note.
Showing in his pink and black costume, the full capacity crowd went nuts when he took the stage and remained in high gear the entire show, scarf and lei presentations found his admirers clamoring to the stage to be the lucky one to receive one, you dare not get in the way for fear of stampede both there and in the line prior to being admitted to
the show. Danny continued his show by gracing the stage next in his Black Leather (the crowd went nuts! and it was interesting to see the behavior in the different age groups, from very young to the older generation, the reactions were different but in a way very much the same)

Danny Vernon Illusion of Elvis at The Elvis Bash, Emerald Queen Casino

Danny ended his performance in his white with orange jeweled jumpsuit which seemed to be plugged in while on the stage, the refraction of the stage lighting in the jewels added a special vibrance and halo to his presence and the reaction in the audience
noted the special touch. Great choice of costuming! Danny sang most of the popular songs which he is noted for as well as a collection of gospel songs which set a special mood in all.

While at out table we were very happy to be a part in the introduction of Danny to a brand new fan who had never seen his performance prior. The smiles spoke volumes! It was wonderful meeting and getting to know several more Danny fans and becoming friends with other with the same interest. Great Music and the talent of two special people we all admire.

I highly recommend if you get a chance to see Danny Vernon on this stage at this venue that you by all means... GO!
A great performance Danny and Marsha, Thank you for giving your all, as usual.. Couldn't have been a better tribute to Elvis than the one witnessed last evening. Congrats
Thank You, ~ Lea

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketOn Behalf of the United States Navy League, The Bremerton/Olympic Council of the Navy League. I would like to thank Danny and Marsha for their as always, outstanding performance last evening, May 17th by entertaining us at the Dinner/show for the Armed Forces Day, Navy League Gala which took place at The Admiral Theatre, in Bremerton, WA.

Danny and Marsha wowed the audience which included some of the major brass of the US. Navy as visitors. Including a keynote speech presented by Admiral Gary Roughead, Chief of Naval Operations. (Attending from Washington DC)
Admiral Simonds Commander of the Navy Region NW
Mayor Gary Boseman
Represenatative Norm Dicks
First Command CEO, USNA class of 77 (Fort Worth, Texas)
Commanders of all Fleet Submarines, Bangor WA.
Honored Crews of Active Duty Submarines and Surface Line Ships home ported at Bangor Navy Base.
The Committee for the Lone Sailor Construction Project, Bremerton Waterfront.
Also lighting up the audience were numerous Officers (retired and active duty) and Enlisted personnel in support of all represented services. Army Navy Marine Air Force Coast Guard and Merchant Marine.

Danny proved that Elvis is alive in each one of us as he had his work cut out for him, but loosened up his uniform clad clan and received a well earned, standing ovation at the end of his set. Danny was in his usual fine form, voice impressing everyone who got the chance this evening to hear him and Marsha, some for the very first time. Danny showing up on stage first in his black leather, the oohs and ahs raised from the audience, then changing to his white and turquoise jumpsuit, the comments were almost sensor-able. Marsha beautiful and shimmery added her beautiful voice as backup and added her own solo during Danny's costume change she truly added pazazz to the stage and brought smiles and chuckles to us all.
Thank you both once again for a job well done, Bremerton Rocked last night... as they say Navy Style... BRAVO ZULU!!!
Love you both! ~ Lea and Doug

Navy League of The United States has a proposal to place The Lone Sailor statue memorial on the Bremerton, Washington waterfront is presented by the Navy League of the United States, Bremerton-Olympic Peninsula Council. Under the leadership of Council President Stan Mack, along with Project Co-Chairmen, Ron Testa and Tim Thomson, this active Navy League Council is raising funds to donate this patriotic statue to honor the Sea Service members of our communities in the Northwest ...past …present …and future. The Bremerton Harbor provides an excellent location for this statue. Currently, the revitalization of downtown Bremerton includes its Marina, which is now completed.

Photo Array is a grouping of some of the "nearly 6,000 people in Lincoln Bowl when Elvis made his first appearance in the Pacific Northwest. The air was electric as the crowd, many on folding chairs, awaited Elvis’s arrival. Many of the young women seemed to be in a state of near-delirium. Elvis had just finished being televised on the Ed Sullivan show, where he’d been photographed from the waist up, to protect America’s youth from his pelvic gyrations and, perhaps, little old ladies from leaving their husbands.

The historic day for the Pac NW was Sept. 1, 1957, when Elvis Presley played the Lincoln Bowl in Tacoma."

Danny is known for his high energy shows that focus on connecting with his audience. He enjoys performing all 3 decades of Elvis' career including the "recklessly abandoned" hillbilly cat of the '50's, the sleek '60's movie years including the tiger man "68 comeback special", and the sexy 70's jumpsuit era.

Watch for New Performances

After attending a party with our Tbird
Club at My Girl Drive In.. My first time there and what
an incredible place to have a function, I've died and gone to '50's heaven.
Only thing missing at this event  was some fabulous music by "The King".

They had a Sinatra singer and it's just didn't make the place hop. I will act
as a voice here and say If you have never been to this place, Seeing
Danny (The Illusion of Elvis) there would be the icing on the cake. It will transport you to days gone by, for sure. This place is so KEWL and comes alive when the Neon kicks on.
Bob Thompson from MyGirl sends his regards and spoke very highly of Danny and Marsha, thinks the world of them and Danny's folks.
Don't miss Danny's show there if you get a chance, it will be bringing you back to the '50's and 60's, it won't just be an illusion either by being surrounded
by everything Elvis and Marilyn..

Biography: Danny Vernon creates the "Illusion of Elvis" from many years of admiration of Elvis Presley. He has sought to create a show that will hold the excitement of Elvis on stage. "I try to recapture the charisma and sex appeal that helped spark a new direction in popular culture. In addition, I also aspire to show respect and support the integrity of the man and his music."   Sincerely, Danny Vernon Illusion of Elvis

Danny has been professionally performing his Elvis show for 4 years and has performed everywhere from casinos to convention centers. He is currently associated with and performing with the "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" national Marilyn Monroe Look-a-like, Karen Motherway. His show can be performed alone or with back-up singers. You can also see him perform with Ann Margaret, The Blues Brothers, Sammy Davis Jr. and others. Blues Brothers photos located here.

Danny found at a very early age, when he began singing along with his father's discarded albums, that Elvis' voice, soul and presence would always cut through the deepest of scratched RCA records. Though unaware of Elvis' vast impact in American culture, Danny would sing and dance along with the king's music, trusting that one day he would be recapturing his own "Illusion of Elvis" show on stage.

Danny has entered a few national and international contests placing 1st in Penticton, B.C.'s Elvis festival 2002, 1st place in the "Weekend With The King" contest in Palm Springs, Ca. (judged by the old Elvis entourage) 2003, and voted top 3 in the Elvis Extravaganza world finals in Las Vegas, 2003.
