I have received numerous
emails asking to
know more about Daena and something about her singing career. These pages have
been launched with her okay as well as this page feature about Daena and
her duet "I Want to Spend My Lifetime Loving You". We didn't intend to intrude in her privacy or that of Danny's
family but Daena was gracious to induldge us with some comments and photos so we
could know her a bit better.
Mahalo nui loa Daena, it's been a delight meeting you. ~Lea

Daena Writes: Hi lea.
"As far as the biography page, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I like to travel also. Having coffee at Starbucks while losing myself in a good book. I like going to church and reading my bible. Of coarse I love singing and dancing. I like doing yoga, scrap booking, and having the newest gadgets. I like learning new things and meeting new people. Talking about old times and dreaming up what the future may hold while enjoying the present to the fullest."
"I love pampering myself when I can afford it (getting massages, pedicures, manicures, facials....) There's way to much more for me to continue."
***
"As far as the inspiration to do the song; when I first heard the song "I Want to Spend My Lifetime Loving You" I knew I wanted to do that song, there was just something about it. I actually got the "Mask of Zorro" movie and skipped to the credits to write down the lyrics to the song.
***
Then some years after the movie came out, my dad gave me a call asking if I had ever heard this song. As soon as I realized what song he was speaking of I told him I could do it right away. (Even though the female part is super high) that was the beginning of it.
Then about a month later my dad called me and said, "I hope your ready, we're gonna record your parts tomorrow" I sat in the bathroom and sang the song over and over until I couldn't stay awake anymore.
***
So we got to the studio and I was so nervous. I didn't want to do badly or take up too much studio time. But all in all I think it came out pretty good.
Except that I sound a lot younger than I
really am.

Dear Daena,
Aloha, I hope you had a lovely Holiday and I want to wish you the
best and a very Happy New Year.
I was wondering if you would be willing to add some to the feature if
possible. I get so many questions about you..
Daena replied: *I seen it & I like
it.
I'd really like to know how you felt
realizing that you were a recording
star...
Daena replied: *I don't really see
myself as a recording star. That was only one
recording. When I have my own record. Then I earned the title of a
recording star.
Do you recall what happened/where you
were etc. when you first heard "I
want to spend my Lifetime loving you?"
Daena replied: *I was at work when
I heard it on the radio. It was pretty cool. My doctors stopped what they were
doing to listen. My co-worker told
everyone in there that it was me.
What was your first reaction?
Daena replied: *cool
Do you foresee more recording with your
father in the future?
Have you done so in the past?
Daena replied: *For the future,
probably. I'd really like to redeem myself so that I don't sound like I'm "12".
And yes once I did record with him previously
for back up. But he never used it.
Do you have aspirations for a
future in music?
Daena replied: *I definately would
like to have a career in music.
But God has a plan for me, & if music's not in it, that's okay too.
What type of music is your
favorite? both to sing and listen to?
Daena replied: *I love oldies, like
soul. But I couldn't say that I actually have a particular favorite genre & I
usually find myself singing slow songs, I guess I like that you have to pay more
attention to the vocals.
Do you have a favorite
Singer/performer? (other than Danny Couch)
Daena replied: *Well once again, no
"favorite" but my personal collection of music consists of: Steve Wonder, Aretha
Franklin, Alicia Keys, Beyonce,
Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Aerosmith, Nora Jones, Marvin Gaye, The Stylistics,
Temptations, Shirelles, old Mariah Carey..........
Any chance of seeing you sing with your
father onstage?
Daena replied: *We have sung
onstage once. We did a wedding. I actually had to cut my vacation short, & catch
an earlier flight just to sing that one song with him.
Last imposition.... would you have any
photos you can share with our
readers?
Daena replied: The only thing I have is the
one I took at the Hokus.
but there are some on my on-line album you can use.
Daena replied: *You can use what you need.
So there it is. Sorry it took so long. Life's been very hectic lately.
~Daena~
